Earlier this month I posted a notice about the second step in the Norfolk Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Project.  A series of meetings were held earlier this month where the consultants presented an overview of their efforts so far and solicited comments.

Please note that there is still a window of opportunity for you to submit any concerns or comments that you may have: about the proposed zoning ordinance re-write, re-write process, et al.   Even if you have not had the chance to review the consultants recent work, if you have a concern about the current state of zoning, land use, planning processes, specific land uses issues, etc. that you want to be sure are addressed in the re-write process — NOW IS THE TIME TO REGISTER YOUR CONCERN. As pointed out at our monthly meeting last week, all comments will/should be recorded by the consultant team, reviewed and responded to as the process moves forward.  The window for comment submission will be closing soon however.

Yea-Haa!!!  It’s the Norfolk Zoning Ordinance Re-Write Two-Step, coming to the Chrysler Museum next Tuesday, the 7th of April, 2015.   So grab your pardner and do-si-do at the Public Input Meeting of the Zoning Ordinance Assessment from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Okay, okay.  It’s not really a two-step dance.  This is the second step in the Norfolk Zoning Ordinance rewrite process, following the initial project kickoff in Sept. — Oct. of last year.  A team of consultants has been beavering away since then to produce a Zoning Ordinance Assessment, which is the subject of Tuesday night’s public input meeting at the Chrysler.

If you do wish to attend Tuesday meeting, you do not have to have a pardner, nor do-si-do.  Just wanted to make that clear….

Further to last night’s review of the Sassi Cake’s application, mention had been made to the recent (9 December) letter from the Ghent Business Association (GBA) to the City Council.  Attached is that letter:

Sassi Cakes – GBA’s 9 Dec letter to City Council of (conditional) support

It was attached to the application, circa 16 Dec, for City Council’s consideration.  (I had previously posted a link to the whole application … so the forementioned letter should be no surprise to you … and you too have this stored in your own “Precious Memento’s of Ghent” folder  🙂 …. ).   The GBA’s suggestion should be reflected in the revised application version that is presented when next City Council discusses this item, though was not yet in the ~16 Dec version.

Further info from the new http://www.zonenorfolk.com website.  N.B. The “Project Overview” link leads to a downloadable 8-page PDF which provides some insight into the scope of the project.

The City of Norfolk is conducting a comprehensive rewrite of its Zoning Ordinance. Norfolk is evolving: the City’s planning and development goals have changed. The current Zoning Ordinance, adopted in 1992 and amended several times, does not reflect the recently adopted plaNorfolk2030 General Plan. The project will create a user-friendly document that does the following:
  • Incorporates modern best practices
  • Supports and encourages resilient development
  • Promotes environmentally-friendly development
  • Recognizes different character districts throughout the city
Your participation is critical. Help us shape the future of development in Norfolk! Review the Project Overview and keep checking back to this website for updates and information.
