The Brambleton Avenue and Colley Avenue Improvement Project will include various traffic and street enhancements for the purposes of improving access to the Fort Norfolk area and decreasing the impact of flooding during high tide occurrences along Brambleton Avenue.
This project provides a dual left turn lane for westbound Brambleton Avenue onto southbound Colley Avenue with new signals and improved crosswalks. It also includes widening and raising a section of westbound Brambleton Avenue from Colley Avenue to the Brambleton Bridge with new sidewalks, curb and gutter, and pedestrian lighting on the north side, as well as storm water drainage improvements.

This project is not related to improvements in Ghent specifically. It is part of the overall Fort Norfolk improvement project that has included work at Second and Front Streets as well as infrastructure work to support the Fort Norfolk Plaza. Public Works does make efforts to coordinate work with the Department of Utilities when both departments are working in the same area. However, the Utilities project in the area was completed earlier this year under a previous phase. For the Brambleton and Colley project, no Utilities work is planned.
