The Norfolk Public Works Depatment sent the Ghent Neighborhood lLague the following road closure advisory:
Beginning Saturday, Sept. 22, the Norfolk Public Works Department will begin a road repair project on Hampton Boulevard at the Shirley Avenue intersection. The inside southbound lane and northbound lane of Hampton Boulevard will be closed between Spotswood Avenue and Shirley Avenue. Traffic on Hampton Boulevard will be maintained in both directions in the outside lanes. Once the work on the inside lanes are complete, the outside southbound lane will close and traffic will be maintained with one southbound lane open and both northbound lanes open. Detours will be in place on Shirley Avenue. Off-duty police officers will be stationed at the work zones to monitor and direct traffic as needed. The project will take four to five days to complete, contingent upon weather.
Through Sept. 26, watch for closure of the northbound outside lane on Hampton Boulevard between Harrington Avenue and Brandon Avenue and between West 21st Street and Azalea Court due to road core sampling.
On Sunday, Sept. 23, the city, coordinating with VDOT, will remove the Midtown Tunnel HOV lane on northbound Hampton Boulevard. The rain date for this work will be Sunday, Sept. 30.
