|On June 27, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Christ and St. Luke’s will hold a public meeting in the church’s sanctuary on its expansion plans, the church announced in a June 1, 2004 letter to members of its congregation who live in Ghent.
The announcement soon will be followed by a mass mailing to all residents of Ghent and Ghent Square, in which the meeting will be publicly announced, the Rev. James Sell noted in his June 1 letter.
In February 2004, the board of the Ghent Neighborhood League had voted to oppose the church’s expansion plans — which include the proposed demolition of two historic buildings — as inappropriate for the Ghent historic district in which the church is located.
