National Register of Historic Places
The National Park Service administers the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register is the official federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture.
Historical and Cultural Conservation
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources is the State Historic Preservation Office. Their mission is to foster, encourage, and support the stewardship of Virginia’s significant historic, architectural, archaeological, and cultural resources. .
Design Review
The Norfolk City Planning Commission and the Norfolk Design Review Committee (which advises the Planning Commission on matters of design) are charged with reviewing all proposed alterations that are visible from the public right-of-way and located within the Ghent Historic and Cultural Conservation Districts

Process for presenting at GNL Monthly Meetings: In order to ensure adequate time for neighborhood notification and advance GNL review of all proposals, those wishing to present at the monthly GNL meetings should contact the Ghent Neighborhood League to schedule a meeting at least two weeks prior to their desired meeting date, to: 1) discuss their proposal 2) submit all presentation materials and 3) request any vote they would like the GNL to entertain, in order to be considered for inclusion on the GNL monthly meeting agenda.
